Turkey, 1997. As tensions between religious and secular groups are increasing, 14-year-old Ahmet is sent by his father to an Islamic dormitory, a Yurt, to learn Muslim values. Ahmet works hard but has trouble fitting in with the rough kids at the Yurt, starting to feel isolated in his day secular school where he hides his new home from his classmates. Ahmet’s only solace is a new friend Hakan, a street-smart kid who knows how to work the Yurt system.
Inspired by the director's experience of living in a Yurt for five years, the film shows the protagonist's inner struggle while trying to meet the expectations of his family and longing to belong somewhere.
