Tonight at Gripe Fortress, the premiere of the Albanian candidate for the Oscar is screened, a documentary film in which the director and screenwriter Ardita Sadiku takes us on an epic journey of a group of brave people.
During the fall of communism in Albania in 1990, ship mechanic Alexander Gruda and several of his friends hatched a plan to hijack a warship to escape the country and lead their families to freedom. Despite all the obstacles – withstanding mortar cannons, helicopters and machine gun fire – they succeeded in this, but not without consequences.
His compatriot Erenik Beqiri, who had won an award in Venice with the short film "A Short Trip", and for his previous film "The Van" won the Palme d' Or in Cannes, is also coming to Gripe.
The wonderful Isabelle Huppert returns to FMFS in "Sidonie in Japan", where she portrays a French writer who receives an invitation to Japan to present a reprint of her book. This excellent humorous drama offers an interesting look at Japanese culture and diversity, and is shown at the Golden Gate Cinematheque at 7 p.m.
"The Successor" is scheduled for Saturday evening at the Bačvice Open-air Cinema, a tense psychological thriller by award-winning director Xavier Legrand, in which we follow the artistic director of a large Parisian fashion house who, after the death of his father, discovers his great secret. "Mussol" is a Spanish short film from the "Ješke" programme directed by Juanjo Giménez. His previous film “Timecode”, winner of FMFS 2017, won the Palme d' Or at Cannes and was nominated for an Oscar.
Tonight, the fourth FMFS cinema is to be opened, moving right next to the monument to Gregory of Nin. On the green area adjacent to the northern entrance to Diocletian's Palace, FMFS will set up a temporary "Portaula Cinema", as the residents of the neighbourhood Get call this part, and films from partner festivals will be shown for free.
