The most watched Italian film of the year, the suspenseful crime thriller “The Last Night of Amore” (L'ultima notte di Amore) directed by Andrea Di Stefano, has its Croatian premiere at the Mediterranean Film Festival Split tonight at the Bačvice Open-Air Cinema.
The main role is played by Pierfrancesco Flavino, the first acting choice of a number of Italian directors in recent years, this time in the role of a policeman who, the night before his retirement, comes into contact with the criminal underworld.
It will be preceeded by the world premiere of the Croatian short film "Split Ends" directed by Karla Lulić, starring the great cast of Ivana Roščić, Judita Franković Brdar, Areta Ćurković and Lucija Barišić.
The Spanish “Matria”, director Alvaro Gago's debut film, for which Maria Vazquez won the award for best female role at the Malaga festival, is shown at the Zlatna vrata Cinematheque at 7 p.m. The film follows Ramona, who works as a cleaner and helper on a ship in order to save enough money for her daughter's schooling, while for the same reason putting up with an overbearing and violent partner she is living with.
At Gripe Fortress at 21:30 “When it Melts”, the provocative directorial debut of Veerle Baetens, the Belgian actress known for her title role in the film The Broken Circle Breakdown, is an adaptation of Liza Spit's novel of the same name about bullying and the long-term consequences of adolescent trauma. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival where Rosa Marchant was honoured for her impressive performance as the protagonist Eve as a child.
On the plateau in front of the Youth Center, the free FMFS cinema is hosting the Corto Dorico Film Festival. It is a festival of Italian short films, being held since 2004 in Ancona, with the aim of presenting the best films of Italian short production from the past year and is an important meeting place for Italian authors.
