Despite the light rain, the 16th Mediterranean Film Festival Split began last night in the sold-out Bačvice Open-Air Cinema, which was declared open by Mayor Ivica Puljak. The FMFS audience once again showed what kind of punks they are - the screening was held without interruption!
The main actors Emanuele Linfatti and Matteo Creatini of the Italian film "Margines" were greeted with ovation, they then talked about the film with the audience long after the screening ended. Short film "The Real Truth About the Fight" directed by Andrea Slaviček had its Croatian premiere bringing the entire young cast of the film to the cinema. A certificate of appreciation for partner support since the first issue of FMFS was presented to Miroslav Ivić, long-time director of Slobodna Dalmacija, a daily newspaper that celebrates its 80th birthday tomorrow.
A double premiere programme at the festival awaits us today, both presented by the film directors in person.
Humorous drama "Pelican", directed by Filip Heraković, arrives with a jury award at the Talinn Black Nights Film Festival to the Bačvice Open-Air Cinema (9:30 p.m.). Edi Ćelić from Split plays the main role in the story of a football player who is recovering in a spa from a knee injury that seriously jeopardizes his career, and is experiencing an identity crisis.
Finnish director Selma Vilhunen will personally present "Four Little Adults" (9:30 p.m.) at the beautiful temporary cinema that FMFS opened inside Gripe Fortress. The humorous drama deals with the subject of an unusual romantic relationship - polyamory, when a politician invites her husband's lover to become part of their relationship in order to save her marriage.
The short feature "Ješka" at Bačvice tonight is the world premiere of the film "Mate" directed by Ivan Efendić, about a self-taught painter from a small village in Dalmatian Hinterland.
At the third FMFS location, Zlatna vrata cinematheque, the documentary "The Last Playboy" (7:00 p.m.) shows us the extraordinary life of a 70-year-old man who claims to have slept with more than a thousand women.
