The Mediterranean Film Festival Split and the Croatian National Theatre Split are launching the third season of Cinema in the Theatre, a programme showcasing new and exciting titles from Croatian and international cinema. The first screening features the Tunisian drama The Voice of Hind Rajab, nominated for Best European Film of the Year, showing on Sunday, 23 November at 8 PM.
Director Kaouther Ben Hania — twice nominated for an Academy Award (Four Daughters, The Man Who Sold His Skin) — presents a film based on true events, built around real audio recordings that spread across the world in January 2024.
On 29 January 2024, volunteers from the Palestinian Red Crescent received an emergency call: six-year-old Hind Rajab was trapped inside a car under heavy fire in Gaza, pleading to be rescued. As they tried to keep her on the line, the team did everything in their power to send an ambulance to her location.
The film had its world premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival, where it received the Grand Jury Prize and earned the longest recorded standing ovation in festival history — over 23 minutes.
It has since screened and been awarded at numerous international festivals, and is Tunisia’s official submission for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. The project is also supported by an impressive group of co-producer allies, including globally renowned actors and filmmakers Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Alfonso Cuarón, and Jonathan Glazer.
Tickets are available at the HNK Split box office and online store.
