11th Mediterranean Film Festival Split, taking place at open air cinema Bacvice and Zlatna Vrata Cinematheque from 7th-16th June, comprises so many interesting movie titles this year. Many of them have already won numerous awards at festivals all over the world. Today's press conference, held at Zlatna Vrata Cinematheque, revealed some of those movie treats that will have their regional and Croatian premieres right in front of the FMFS audience which will make the festival the film center of the entire Mediterranean.
As it can be seen on our festival promo poster, designed by Karlo Kazinoti, FMFS is jumping all over to South America and their cinematography, which is in the center of this year's additional programme.
-Taking into consideration that we have been including movies outside the competition for years, this time we decided to focus on South America and call it 'Other side of Mediterranean'. These countries are similar to Mediterranean for their culture and customs and their movies are usually filmed in co-production with Spain and Portugal. The most interesting one is definitely a Paraguayan film 'Las heredas', the winner of three awards at Berlinale, of which two were Silver Bears. Mexican 'Time Share' won the Best Scripture award at Sundance, drawing attention to the context of tourism. At the same festival the leading actress of Argentinian comedy drama 'The Queen of Fear' won the award for Best Actress. –revealed Alen Munitić, festival manager.
Sponsored by Italian 'Istituto di Cultura' from Zagreb, FMFS will be opened with a screening of 'Emma', including two more Italian titles at the festival. The cooperation will prolong even during the summer with the programme 'Ferragosto at Cinema Mediterranean'. This year's FMFS will be closed by another title screened outside the competition, introducing an outstanding treat: Danish film 'The Guilty' , intense drama that follows one evening in the life of an emergency call operator.
This film, wherever it was screened, became the audience's favourite. Its world premiere was at Sundance, winning the Audience Award, the same as in Rotterdam. We are proud that we succeded in buying and distributing this film, since it was one of the most wanted films at the movie market in Berlin. Thanks to that, we are planning to screen it at other locations as well, such as Bol, Komiža, Imotski and in that way open the summer season ouf our project 'Cinema Mediterranean' – announced Munitić.
FMFS is sponsored this year as well by the city of Split,Croatian Audiovisual centre, Tourist Board of Split and for the first time the festival partner is Addiko Bank.
Addiko, being the modern and straightforward company, has recognised the value of FMFS and we have gladly become the part of it by giving our financial and partner support. Exceptionally rich movie programme, screenings that take place in a beautiful ambience have led to FMFS being the festival loved by the audience. Since we are focused on making our clients feel satisfied in business area, I am really proud to say that Addiko Bank has given its contribution to this year's festival edition – said Monika Morić, Customer Manager for Dalmatia region.
