The film summer gathering in Split, which is eagerly awaited every year, is ready for its sixteenth edition - the Mediterranean Film Festival Split begins this Thursday. Throughout seven different programmes, the organizers announced screenings of 78 films from 26 countries, which will be shown at the Bačvice Open-Air Cinema, Gripe Fortress , Zlatna vrata cinematheque and on the plateau of the Youth Center.
At the beautiful open-air cinema on Bačvice, we’ll see two feature-length premieres of domestic films, the humorous drama "Pelican" by Filip Heraković and "El Shatt – A Blueprint For Utopia", a new documentary by Ivan Ramljak. The people of Split and their guests will be the first in Croatia to see a series of films that had their world premieres in Cannes, Venice or Berlin, and a large number of foreign filmmakers will personally present them to the FMFS audience.
Italian actors Emanuele Linfatti and Matteo Creatini are going to arrive to Split on Thursday to talk about "Margini", the film that delighted the audience in Venice. At the same festival, in the Orizzonti programme, the directors won the award for best director and female role in "Vera". Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel, as well as the main actress Vera Gemma, and the award-winning trio will be at the 16th FMFS. The beautiful cinema located in the ramparts of the 17th century Gripe Fortress will also host the Finnish director Selma Vilhunen, who will present an extremely interesting humorous drama about polyamory "Four small adults".
The crime thriller " The Last Night of Amore", the most watched Italian film of the year, also premiers at the Split Mediterranean Film Festival, we will see the Egyptian action spectacle "Kira & El Gin", which was also filmed in Croatia, as well as the great Léa Seydoux in a new film by Mia Hansen - Løve.
The Spanish invasion of FMFS is led by the absolute winner of the national Goya awards, the film "The Beasts" by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, and in "Prison 77" the main role is played by Miguel Herran, the star of the "Money Heist" series.
There are also a handful of free programme for children of all ages, as well as a night out for the whole family, the comedy "Dancing Queen" is recommended for anyone who can follow subtitles.
Real little film gems are shown not only at the Bačvice Open-Air Cinema, but also at other locations, so it makes it worthwhile to thoroughly explore the extensive programme of the festival, which is held until 24 June.
FMFS is increasingly becoming a gathering place for film professionals. As part of FMFS Industry, a conversation is planned with the legendary Robert McKee, who will participate live from his home in the USA, and is the author of the iconic book "Story", which has influenced thousands of film professionals around the world.
The film poster exhibition "NoMAD MOVIE ARTa - Film classics through the eyes of Croatian authors" is shown for the second time organized by the Split Nomad Gallery at the Bačvice Open-Air Cinema during FMFS. Authors from all over Croatia interpret film classics through their medium and personal perspective. This year, a surprise is also being prepared - a wine bar! There is no other choice than to settle down in a comfortable chill-out zone before or after the movie and enjoy art with a glass of wine.
