The visitors of 9th Mediterranean Film Festival Split wil be the first ones in the region to have the opportunity tonight at 21:30h to see this year's winner of Berlinale in summer movie theatre "Bačvice".
The director Gianfranco Rossi won a Golden Bear for the documentary "Fuocoammare" where he filmed the everydaylife on the island of Lampedusa through the eyes of a 10 year old boy Samuel Carvana, mixing daily chores with the immingrants that are constantly arriving.
The immigrant crisis, being a popular topic nowadays, is still the everyday life for some people. Human fates fighting for a better life have been breaking on the shores of this small Italian island for the last 20 years, depicted in a documentary that offers a raw image of life in such places.
Famous actress Meryl Streep as a member of jury at Berllinale said that this film itself depicts the power of documentary form, leaving a strong impression on viewers and points to the core of the problem. The Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said that he would take 27 DVD copies to the European Council session, one copy for each head of state of EU.
For the ones craving a lighter topic, the screening of "The Show of Shows: 100 years of Vaudeville, circus and carneval" will take place in movie theatre "Zlatna Vrata" at 19h. This is a film based on a circus theme and the screenings are organised by ROOM 100 that are taking us back to the famous days of the travelling circus troupes, when the audience hurried to witness the unusual and bizzare performances of circus artists. The film contains footages of circuses, freak shows that have never been seen, dating from 19th and 20th century, accompanied by the original music of Sigur Roso.
The third location, the summer terrace of movie thetare "Tesla" presents foreign short films from the best worldwide festivals, starting at 21:30h. Worth mentioning are "Small talk", the nominent for Oscar 2015 and the action short film "Kung Fury" filmed in 80s style.
