8th Mediterranean Film Festival was opened officially last night in the sold out summer movie theatre “Bacvice” with a regional premier of Italian-Albanian movie “Sworn Virgin.” The most visited cultural manifestation located under the hill Marjan broke its own record again with a number of visitors, and one of the mayor’s counsellors for culture and science, Mr. Igor Baković, declared the festival opened.
The manager of the Festival, Alen Munitić greeted citizens and tourists that can see movies thanks to the English subtitling, but also numerous workers in the field of culture and cinema.
“We organised this festival because of the audience, we have been working hard during the entire year and it really means a lot to see the movie theatre sold out. I don’t know how to apologise to all of you sitting all around, however that is part of the Festival atmosphere- that makes the festival just the way it is”- told Munitić and thanked to the Croatian audiovisual centre, city of Split and to all associates and sponsors.
The second day of the Festival opens at movie theatre “Zlatna Vrata” with a nine minute short film “Dan Marjana” by Igor Jelinović and after that the programme continues with a mini series “Little Quinquin” by Bruno Dumont that was compared with a series “Twin Peaks” by the New York Festival. The evening programme at movie theatre “Bacvice” opens with “Daddy issues” by Judita Gamulin and the movie that will mark this Saturday is “A new friend” unordinary funny story about love, loss and identity, by French director Francois Ozon.
66 movies from 31 countries will be screened during the nine days of the Festival, among which 45 premieres. The Mediterranean Film Festival takes place at three locations, summer movie theatre “Bacvice”, movie theatre “Zlatna Vrata” and Art Gallery’s garden where screenings are free of charge every night to encourage a great number of citizens of Split and their guests to be a part of the Festival.
