8th Mediterranean Film Festival Split starts this Friday and it will be screening 66 films in three locations until 13th June including 45 premieres for citizens of Split and their guests.
Thanks to Mediterranean Film Festival, Split will be the movie centre of the Mediterranean during nine days of the festival and besides movie theatres Bacvice and Zlatna Vrata that will be screening feature films, it is important to point out the third location where great short films will be screened for free.
We opened our third movie theatre at Art Gallery to highlight the short film and by free entrance we want to achieve that our fellow citizens and tourists become a part of the festival. The high quality of the programme is visible from the fact that all these short films together won more than 100 awards on festivals all around the world, and we are especially happy because a great number of these directors sent their applications to us- says the manager of the festival Alen Munitić, announcing the titles "Young Lions of Gipsy" and "Aisse" that were screened during 30 different festivals around the world and won the awards in Cannes together with many films from the programme of Clemont Ferrand, Rotterdam and Toronto.
After four days of screening short films that are competing for the award "Ješka", we will host films that will be screened in cooperation with our partners: Sarajevo Film Festival, Animafest, Zagreb Film Festival, Operacija Kino and Cirkuska srijeda. The festival highlights the Dutch "A single life" that was nominated for Academy Award in category for best animated short film, omnibus "Mostovi Sarajeva" on which Aida Begić, Jean Luc Godard and Ursula Meier worked on, this year's best short films from Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Lithuania, and "La buche de noel" by the author of a great animated movie "Panique au village".
8th Mediterranean Film Festival Split opens this Friday at 21:30 in summer movie theatre "Bacvice" with a regional premiere of Italian- Albanian film "Sworn Virgin" by Laura Bispuri that won over the audience and the jury on this year's Berlinale. Tickets for the screenings can be bought at the price of 20 and 25 kn on www.fmfs.hr or at the box office in movie theatre "Zlatna Vrata."
