There are 85 movies representing the programme of 10th Mediterranean Film Festival Split that takes place at three locations from 8th to 17th June; films coming from 26 countries, from which many of them will have its Croatian and regional premiere at the festival. Various enjoyable movie treats for citizens of Split and their guests, lasting for ten days in which this city will become the center of the Mediterranean film world, were presented on today's press conference in movie theatre 'Zlatna Vrata'.
Favourite Split cultural manifestation will start with Bulgarian- Greek film 'Glory', a new film by Kristina Grozeva that has already won over the audience with 'Lesson' ; director Feras Fayyad for 'Last men in Aleppo' won the Sundance Grand Prix and definitely a great interest will cause French- Algerian 'I still hide to smoke' by Rayhana Obermeyer, as well as 'The Burglar' by Israelian director Hagar Ben Asher.
Always welcome Spanish directors are being represented this year by Agusti Villaronga with an amazing Catalonian story 'Uncertain Glory', from the official San Sebastian programme there is'La reconquista' by Jonas Trueba and one of the exceptional opportunities to see the intriguing 'Skins' by Eduardo Casanova on the big screen will take place exactly at Mediterranean Film Festival because the film will not be distributed.
After Toronto Festival and before going to Karlovy Vary, Croatian film 'Moj život bez zraka' by Bojana Burnac will have its premiere outside the competition and national film girl power will be seen also in two succesful co-productions 'Moj svijet je naopačke' by Petra Seliškar and 'Funne: Djevojke koje sanjaju more' by Katie Bernardi. The curtain for the anniversary party will fall down with screening a film of Ole Giaever,a good Festival acquintance, the director of 'Out of Nature', who showed his new work 'From the balcony' at this year's Berlinale.
Because of the budget problems in Split, as well as because of the complicated situations in Croatian Audiovisual centre, 10th Mediterranean Film Festival was organised accompanied with series of difficulties, as Alen Munitić the director of the festival, stated.
It was our wish to make this anniversary edition bigger and more successful, however taking into account all difficulties we had confronted, I am extremely satisfied with the programme we had prepared. We succeeded thanks to the efforts of the entire team, but also thanks to our clients' understandings that allowed as the deferral of payments. Anyway, this year we are presenting again the best possible films for their premieres in Croatia and Split and technical demands are on a high note as well, as our audience has been used to it already. – told Munitić.
He expressed his hope in stopping politics getting involved into culture because manifestations as Mediterranean Film Festival can hardly survive if they do not change something.
The audience recognized Mediterranean Film Festival and we have income for 60% of our necessary budget, the data that is not typical for these types of projects. However, to continue our growth, we need a stronger institutional support. In the end we can say that our second project 'Kino Mediteran' this year enabled the organisation of Mediterranean Film Festival, so we would like to thank to our local partner all over Dalmatia for their understanding.- stressed Munitić.
The project 'Islands united' showed that the culture can be a valuable promoter of Croatia all around the world, presenting film makers from 4 European island states. After screening their films at Mediterranean Film Festival, best Croatian short films will go for a tour in Cyprus, Malta, Ireland and Island.
The organisation ensured the main prize of 10.000 kn for the best Croatian short film and in cooperation with Creative Europe Desk – Media Croatia there are workshops organised that concentrate on developing and presenting film projects for international markets. Pitching forum takes place on 10th June to present 5 short and feature films in making.
We are happy to mention that even this year, our partner, company 'Uje' supports the development of local production , therefore the best short film project in making will also win a prize of 10.000 kn- told Munitić.
Besides the usual locations, summer movie theatre Bacvice and movie theatre Zlatna vrata we confirm that the location with free entrance screenings will be the legendary 'Cinema Tesla Terrace' . In partnership with photogallery Split, the photography exhibition of 'Glamour Hollywood' will take place from 5th June till the beginning of the July, which additionally enriched Mediterranean Film Festival.
