The feature debut by Thai director Pat Boonnitipat has swept box offices across Asia and was shortlisted among 15 films worldwide in the race for an Academy Award nomination. The film will be screened at the Croatian National Theatre Split on Sunday, 19 January at 8 pm.
M, an exceptionally lazy young man motivated by stories of easy money, quits his job to take care of his ailing grandmother. His sole ambition is to win her affection – and her inheritance. As he does everything he can to become her favourite, other family members are also making their moves. But Grandma is no easy target, and time is running out. This original comedy became an instant hit in Thai cinemas, dominated box offices across Asia, and is now winning over European audiences.
The lead role is played by Thai megastar Putthipong Assaratanakul, better known as Billkin. The film is Thailand’s official submission for the Academy Awards and has been shortlisted among the final 15 films in contention for a nomination.
Pat Boonnitipat is a Thai filmmaker primarily known for his work in television, where he has directed documentary series. He gained film experience working as a cameraman and cinematographer before moving into directing. Following the successful television adaptation of the popular thriller Bad Genius, Boonnitipat was given the opportunity to make his first feature film, How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.
